Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, firm yet empathetic Finance & Lending Administrator to support the smooth functioning of our lending operations. This role is central to executing disbursements, maintaining accurate financial records, and following up on repayments, especially for loans in arrears.

You’ll bring a systems mindset and strong attention to detail to enforce robust back-office processes. From tracking collections and reconciling payments to managing overdue accounts, you’ll make sure no loan is left unpaid, while every client walks away with a positive experience of Pumpkn.

A velvet glove for the customer, with an iron grip on performance.

What you'll do

  • Oversee and execute loan disbursements, ensuring compliance and timely payouts
  • Track and reconcile repayments across systems (e.g. bank statements, loan management tool, debit orders, etc.)
  • Proactively follow up on missed payments with empathy and firmness
  • Escalate arrears with our legal counsel and support case-by-case resolution or restructuring
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all transactions and financial operations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of SOPs for disbursement, collections, and reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial and portfolio reports in collaboration with our external accounting service provider and the credit teams
  • Coordinate with relationship managers to ensure clients remain engaged and supported throughout repayment

What we're looking for

  • Strong attention to detail and a process-driven mindset
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial administration, bookkeeping, or loan operations (preferably in a lending or fintech environment)
  • Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, and accounting or loan management tools (e.g. QuickBooks, Excel)
  • Empathetic communicator with the confidence to follow up firmly on outstanding payments
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • A proactive problem-solver who takes ownership and follows through
  • Familiarity with financial reporting and reconciliation processes
  • Integrity, discretion, and a client-centred approach to handling sensitive financial matters
  • Fluency in English and Afrikaans. Another South African language is a strong plus
  • Johannesburg or Cape Town-based, with the ability to travel when needed.

Bonus Points

  • Prior experience in a startup or fintech/lending environment.
